Put Yourself First
Mar 22, 2021Sometimes we forget to take care of ourselves or feel guilty when we want to take the time to do something we like. We want to become a better version of ourselves, be more assertive and decisive, place more value on our own wants and needs without guilt. This is very common and can be frustrating, but it's a great sign that we're ready for change. We begin to change when we arrive at a feeling that something should be different. Here is when evolution begins, this is where you can break the cycle of doing the same things over and over again.
So how do we break this cycle?
The next step is to understand the problem and then find the solution to begin resolving it. It doesn't happen overnight, but you should notice results almost immediately, which will motivate you to continue your progress. If you've read some of my other materials, here is where the systems approach comes in. Applying these small changes will compound to increase your rewards and change your life exponentially.
Let's talk briefly about the problem and solution then.
The problem here is that we focus on results rather than the cause.
To value your own needs and become more decisive or assertive are examples of desired results. Feeling guilty, ashamed, placing everything and everyone else ahead of your own needs are examples of undesired results.
Everything is cause and result. Do you agree?
Focus on the cause, and you will get the results you are looking for.
Good intentions are not good enough without some action.
The cause of the problem is your self-worth; Your perception of the world around you, and how you believe the world wants you to be and feel.
Know that you do not lack self-worth because it is always there. It is just a realization of your true self-worth that you need to discover.
Always take care of yourself first; this is how you become a better version of yourself and benefit others as a result.
What is the solution?
The system to improve self-worth begins with self-observation and getting inside your machine. I've created a short Self Observation practice that you can find in my online store to get you started.
In short, practicing to observe yourself in these situations will allow you to disassociate from the false feelings and realize your true self.
How is self-observation a solution to improve your self-worth?
Through self-observation, you may find gratitude and appreciation for life. You may connect with yourself from the time before the world started telling you who you should be. Discover who you actually are and what you want in life.
This process is individual, and what worked for me may not work for you, but either way, you will come up with an intention - your own reason to feel good about yourself and put yourself first.
